Save the ham bone to make ham stock or soup with, leaving some of the meat on the bone.If it is very strong tasting, (mine was) you may need to add water, a little at a time until it is at your desired strength.Pour the juices from the baking/roasting into a saucepan and make gravy with it or pour it into a container and save it for soup.Allow to cool slightly before cutting it.Remove ham and place it on a large plate or a platter.Remove the tie from the bag and slowly tear the bag open at the top of it.Allow it to cool enough to touch the bag.When you are ready, remove the ham from the oven.You are just warming it or making it hot for a hot meal.Spiral cut ham is precooked so it does not have to reach a certain temperature.You could probably lower it to 175☏ if you want to.Lower the oven temp to 200☏ and let the ham sit in the oven until the rest of the meal is ready.Bake for approximately 1 hour or until the ham slices begin to separate and the top of the ham starts to brown.Place on middle rack of the oven, allowing enough room for the bag to expand without touching the top heating coil.Do not allow any of it to hang over the sides of the pan.Make sure the bag is completely inside the pan.Cut 6-1 inch slits into the top and upper sides of the bag to allow steam to escape.With a tie that came with the bag, tightly seal the bag.In a small sauce pan mix the chicken broth, honey glaze mix, mustard and orange juice over medium heat until the glaze mix and orange juice concentrate are dissolved.Open the bag and put the ham in it, cut side down.Place the bag in a large cake pan or a roasting pan.This prevents the bag from exploding in the oven while baking.Do not remove remaining flour from the bag (I didn't anyway).Put the flour into the cooking bag and shake the bag until it is completely covered with the flour.You will also need: 1 large Reynolds Oven Cooking Bag (turkey size).To serve, simply loosen the slices with a sharp knife and cut through the center of the meat where the slices are joined. After the final cuts are made, you or your guests will be able to lift perfect slices off the ham with ease. You may also want to make a small circle cut around the bone. With a sharp knife make the cut perpendicular to the bone on each seam line. The spiral slices will release most easily if you make a final cut on the three seam lines of the ham (see illustration). Check ham frequently to ensure that the slices do not become dried out.Gently warm the ham for approximately 10 minutes per pound or until warmed through.Place the wrapped ham in a roasting pan in the center of the oven.Wrap the ham in tin foil to retain moisture and the maple-glaze.Remove the ham from all of its original packaging.To maintain its integrity while warming, please follow these directions: This is fine provided extra care is taken not to dry out the ham or have the special glaze simply melt off the meat. Serving Warm Many people prefer to serve Spiral Sliced Hams warm from the oven. When served in this manner each slice of ham will remain perfectly moist and will retain the maximum amount of the special maple-glaze we have painstakingly applied by hand. Serving Cool or Room Temperature The most popular way to serve a Spiral Sliced Ham is cool or at room temperature. If these quicker thawing methods are used, please check the ham frequently and make sure it is placed under refrigeration as soon as it is adequately thawed. If time does not allow, you may wish to leave the ham at room temperature or even immerse a tightly packaged ham in cool water to hasten the thawing time. Thawing To thaw a frozen spiral ham it is best to plan ahead and allow the ham to thaw for three days in your refrigerator. If you plan on keeping a spiral ham more than seven days before it is served, you must freeze the ham to maintain its quality.įreezing A spiral ham will freeze well and may be kept frozen for up to 12 weeks without loss of flavor.
